9A – Testing the Hypothesis, Part 2

Image
I believe that my business opportunity and idea targets a niche market of boat owners and marina owners. It would be tricky to get individual boat owners who keep their vessels in general storage to sign contracts, as the service and contract would have to be unique to every customer. My need differs from other cleaning services because it is done right there at the marina, versus having a different third-party source come in that may not specialize in boats. The niche part of my idea is that boat owners would not have to do anything additional to have general maintenance on their boat. The reason that outsider’s needs would be different than everyone who would benefit from this service is that outsiders do not have boats that need to be cleaned in marinas. It may be possible that some marinas have deckhands that clean boats for tips, and they would not want to have such a service as it would take away from tip money that they make. From the additional interviews that I conducted ...

8A – Solving The Problem

Image
The opportunity that I selected was to sell a service to boatyards and marinas in which my company provides a service that would come and clean fishing and cruising vessels when they return from sea. I would like to set up contracts with numerous boatyards and have them include my service in the price of they charge for dockage. Not every vessel would use the service, but they could choose to if they wish.             The problem that I am solving is that many marinas do not have an existing maintenance and washing service that they can offer to boat owners. I believe that the marina owners would partake in this agreement to use my service because they can likely bring in more customers if they have a cleaning service to offer and their competitors do not.

7A- Testing the Hypothesis part 1

Boat Cleaning Service While Marinas and Shipyards provide boat owners with storage for their vessels, they fail to offer an adequate cleaning service for their customers. The Who: Boatyards and the people who store their vessels there. The What: Many Marinas fail to offer a cleaning service for the vessels that they store. The Why: Their employees are only paid to stow away the boats, leaving the boat owners to clean the boats themselves. I believe that boatyards should be all inclusive. When somebody is paying a premium to store their boat, they should not have to worry about hiring their own cleaning crew or cleaning their boat themselves. The marina can partner with my third-party service and incorporate the cleaning fee into their price to store the boat at their yard. It would also help marinas who offer this service stand out from the ones that do not. I interviewed four boat owners and one college student and explained to them my business pitch and why...

6A – Identifying Opportunities in Economic & Regulatory Trends

Image
My first economic opportunity is about keeping franchise restaurants open past conventional hours in college towns where students are more likely to stay out and eat late. I found this idea from witnessing college students eating trends. College students are much more likely to eat food later than the normal adult. The prototypical customer would be college students in towns such as Gainesville, Tallahassee, and any other large school party school in the United States. I believe that the opportunity would be relatively easy to exploit, as all the franchise managers would need to do is calculate the cost to employ people verses the potential profit margin. If the calculations come out profitable, it would be easy to exploit this opportunity. One regulatory opportunity would be to enforce stricter taxes on online purchases for websites such as Amazon.com. Currently there is no sales tax per state when ordering items online. If a sales tax was instituted based on where the item was o...

Assignment 5A- Identifying Local Opportunities 1)       “Hurricane Maria strengthens as it heads for battered Caribbean islands” by Anne Geggis ,  Adam Sacasa  and Aric Chokey, Contact Reporters for the Sun Sentinel http://www.sun-sentinel.com/news/weather/hurricane/fl-reg-hurricane-maria-florida-20170917-story.html In this article, written on September 17, 2017, the authors outline the rising concern of Hurricane Maria making landfall on the Caribbean Islands. This article explains the dangers that Hurricane Maria, now a Category 1 hurricane, may have on the Caribbean Islands, whose inhabitants just suffered severe damage by Hurricane Irma. The article outlines how “dozens of people had been left dead” after Irma, and there is fear that the Caribbean will not have nearly enough time to rebuild infrastructure and prepare for Maria. The Problems: Many islands in the Caribbean were recently destroyed by Hurricane Irma. A new storm, name...

Assignment 4A- Forming an Opportunity Belief

Assignment 4A- Forming an Opportunity Belief Our global economic market contains many holes. When entrepreneurs find these holes, they create an item to satisfy the unlimited demands of the consumer market. I believe that a hole exists in the market for alcoholic beverages. An opportunity to create an adult beverage that hydrates you, like many sports drinks, has yet to exist.             I have a feeling that the market for alcoholic beverages is missing a beverage that hydrates the consumer with they drink, helping prevent hangovers from occurring during the following day. Two market groups that have a need for such an item are college students and adults who consume alcoholic beverages. Often college students have early classes but still choose to go out and drink the night before. The same problem occurs with adults who have to work the morning after a long night of drinking. I believe that a need for such a product has...

Assignment 3A – Your Entrepreneurship Story

Image
I have always been entrepreneurial. Growing up I was always looking for odd ways to be my own boss and make money. One of my first business ventures happened when I was thirteen years old. My friend and I learned that you can trade in scrap metal for money. We did not have cars so we found an old children's bicycle holder and tied it to the back of our bicycles. We then biked around different neighborhoods and packed any metal that we found on the side of the road into our homemade bike trailer. Once we collected enough metal, we would take it all to the scrapyard and trade it in for cash money. After a few months, we made about $500 each. This was good money for two thirteen-year-old kids, but we decided to brainstorm on ways to expand our business. We decided to make fliers and hand them out to people in our neighborhood advertising our "scrap removal" business. We started to get calls from people asking us to move large objects such as old air conditioning units and h...

Assignment 2A- Bug List

Image
    1.      Walking into spider webs while exploring nature. Spiders set up their webs in open spaces in order to catch bugs for food. Sometimes, especially when it is dark, it is hard to see a spider web and easy to walk into     one.     2.      Having to wait in long lines in a drive through. Drive throughs are meant to be an efficient way for people to quickly grab their food on the go and leave, but often, the workers of the fast food establishment cannot operate quickly enough to satisfy the large demand for fast food.        3.      Stepping into a puddle on a rainy day and getting your socks wet. When it rains, puddles form at the lower parts of a street. Sometimes these puddles are so large that one cannot jump over or walk around said puddle. When this happens, it is easy to step into the puddle and get your shoes and socks wet.     4.  ...
