Assignment 2A- Bug List
1. Walking into spider webs while exploring nature.
Spiders set up their webs
in open spaces in order to catch bugs for food. Sometimes, especially when it
is dark, it is hard to see a spider web and easy to walk into one.
2. Having to wait in long lines in a drive through.
Drive throughs are meant
to be an efficient way for people to quickly grab their food on the go and
leave, but often, the workers of the fast food establishment cannot operate quickly
enough to satisfy the large demand for fast food.
3. Stepping into a puddle on a rainy day and getting your
socks wet.
When it rains, puddles
form at the lower parts of a street. Sometimes these puddles are so large that
one cannot jump over or walk around said puddle. When this happens, it is easy
to step into the puddle and get your shoes and socks wet.
4. Apartments that don’t come fully furnished.
The budget of the tenant
is not large enough to purchase new furniture, and the furniture is not taken
into account into the leasers rent agreement.
5. When you’re in a rush to drive somewhere and the light
goes yellow, but the person in front of you driving does not go when you would
have.
The person in front of
you might not be in a rush, or does not want to risk getting into an accident
or getting a ticket.
6. When you crave Chick-fil-a, but it’s Sunday and the
restaurant is closed.
The founders of Chick-fil-a
have strict Christian values and believe that Sunday should be a day of rest
and worship, so they do not have their employees go to work on a Sunday.
7. When you park on the 7th floor of the
parking garage, and the elevator doesn’t work so you have to take the stairs.
The elevator is broken
and the maintenance has not gotten around to fixing it, so you resort to your
only other option, which is taking the stairs.
8. Having to wait in a “one in-one out” line for
southwest gym.
The gym has a maximum
capacity of 200 people, and it is a fire hazard for more than 200 people to be
in the weight room at once. In order to comply with the restrictions, the workers
must wait for someone to leave before allowing someone else to come into the
gym.
9. When your roommates blast music early in the morning
when you’re asleep.
I share an overall living
space and sound system with my roommates and they sometimes wish to listen to
loud music regardless of the time, so they have the right to listen to music
whenever they want to.
10. Rusty screws
Metal is exposed to water
and will eventually rust, making the screw incapable of practical use.
11. Expensive music festival tickets
The companies that throw
music festivals pay for a variety of musicians to come preform, thus they have
to make the tickets to these festivals expensive in order to turn a profit.
12. Communal bathrooms
In order to conserve
space, colleges put communal bathrooms into dorm halls so that there is more
living space for students.
13. Bus runs late
The traffic in
Gainesville is very bad and buses move slowly, so it is often that buses will
run behind schedule, especially around rush hour.
14. Guacamole that turns brown the next day
Avocadoes and guacamole
usually only stays fresh for one day. It is the nature of the fruit.
15. Stepping outside in Gainesville and immediately sweating
In the summer time,
Gainesville is a very hot and humid town, thus the human body produces sweat in
order to cool itself down.
16. Headphones breaking when you’re at the gym
Headphones are very
fragile and easy to break, especially if something like a heavy weight is
dropped on top of them.
17. Running out of protein powder when you think you still
have a lot left
It is often difficult to
estimate how many scoops of protein powder are left in the tub of protein, and
it is common to think that more protein powder exists in the tub than there
actually is.
18. Losing at the casino with pocket aces
Poker has a high
variance, and even though pocket aces are the best hand, they will only win
about 70%-80% of the time. That means that at least 1 in every five times that
you are dealt pocket aces, you can expect to lose.
19. Staining white clothes
Being clumsy when eating
food or drinking something besides water will cause spillage onto white
clothes, leaving a stain.
20. Litter in nature
Some humans have little respect
for nature, and instead of looking for a trashcan, or stowing away garbage for
later disposal, they will toss their garbage into the wilderness.
I
did not find this assignment extremely difficult. I have a lot of pet peeves,
and although it became harder to think of some towards the end of my Bug List,
it was fairly easy to come up with 20 items that bug me. I believe that the harder
part of the assignment was working backwards from the bugs and explaining how
and why everything happens. Some were easy, such as the bus being late, but
other bugs were more difficult to explain.

I really liked your list of bugs. You thought of a lot that were small enough that I never thought of them, but after seeing them in yours I realized they bother me a lot. Your reasonings for each one were also thorough and well thought out. It was clear you really put in time to think about the roots behind these issues.
