27A- Reading Reflection 3
1.
I believe that the general theme of this book is
that there are certain mindsets that you can adapt that will help aid you to
success. Also, failure can be inevitable and should not hinder you from trying
to succeed.
2.
This book was relevant to what we are learning
in ENT 3003 because it explained the different ways that one may fail when they
begin a new enterprise or business. This book explains how failure can help aid
one to success and to not let failure discourage one from trying to create new
businesses even if their first one does not end up successful. This enhances
what we are learning because the main objective of this class is to create a
business plan of our own and formulate a path to success for our own
businesses. There are over 500 people in this class, and if we were to all actually
follow through with our plans on starting and running a profitable business,
very few would be successful. In “How to Fail at Almost Everything and Still Win
Big,” the main point is for the reader, who is likely an entrepreneur or
thinking of becoming one to understand that if you do not succeed at first,
start over and try again.
3.
The exercise that I would design would be a
follow up to exercise 26A. Exercise 26 had us tell a story of a time that we
failed this semester and what we learned based on that experience. My exercise would
go into further detail of what the first steps would be following the launch of
our business, and how we would handle it if it was not successful, as well as
anything that we learned in the process. Basically, it could be a reflection of
all of the lessons that were learned in the process of the course.
4.
One part of the book that I thought was weird at
first but then understood when Adams went into more detail was that he encourages
people to be selfish. I had heard that many successful entrepreneurs have
selfish and even sociopathic tendencies, but Adams spun selfishness off in a
different way. He explained how being selfish helps one become successful, and
with this success they are contributing back to the community and economy.

I never read this book for any of the reading assignments in this course but based off the title and what you have said about the book it seems like it would be a great read for anyone that wants to succeed. Learning how to turn failure into lessons and make the lessons into success in the future is an important attribute for any business person.
