8A – Solving The Problem

The opportunity that I selected was to sell a service to boatyards and marinas in which my company provides a service that would come and clean fishing and cruising vessels when they return from sea. I would like to set up contracts with numerous boatyards and have them include my service in the price of they charge for dockage. Not every vessel would use the service, but they could choose to if they wish.
The problem that I am solving is that many marinas do not have an existing maintenance and washing service that they can offer to boat owners. I believe that the marina owners would partake in this agreement to use my service because they can likely bring in more customers if they have a cleaning service to offer and their competitors do not.

  1. I think this is a very realistic fix and that many marinas would benefit from this service. I think this could be especially useful because sometimes when moving boats and docking them the marina may scuff them. Having this cleaning service at the marina would allow them to buff these scuffs out as well as allowing for the customer to choose to have their boat cleaned. Many boats get very dirty while at the marina and the cleaning services included only involve spraying the boat off with fresh water.

  2. This is a great idea! As a boat owner, I know how frustrating it is to have to come back from a boating trip and spend a lot of time cleaning your entire boat. This would also be an extremely easy service to implement since it would require equipment that is easily available and relatively cheap. Since people are already paying for their boats to be in the marina it would also be easy to upsell them to include the cleaning service too.

  3. I agree that the biggest issue is a boat maintenance team within the existing dry docks. Not only would it be costly, but it would be very time inefficient. Cleaning a boat is very time consuming, and usually quite pricey (for the boat owner). Dry docks would be able to make a killing off of this service, but only if their prices were high enough to offset the labor prices involved in cleaning and boat maintenance.
