21A- Reading Reflection 2
For part two of the book review, I read “The Art of
Social Media” by Guy Kawasaki. This book reinforced a lot of my existing
knowledge about social media. It was provided me with useful insight on how to
use third party resources to bring more attention to my social media platforms,
whether I am advertising a product on Instagram, looking for more blog
followers, or just trying to grow my existing network on various social media
sites.
The general theme of this book was informative with
regards to business and growing an online platform for someone who is not an
expert with social media.
I believe that this book indirectly enhanced what we
are learning in this class. We have not directly talked about social media, but
part of this book included expanding the popularity of your blog by attaching
twitter links and other social media sites to attract the attention of more
users. This is somewhat relevant to our blog posts. We do not care to have as
many users as possible view our blogs, but if we did, I would now know what to
do.
If I were to design an exercise based on this book
for our class, it would be advertising the product or service that we have been
working on via any form of social media. For example, we would have to set up
an Instagram account or Facebook page and reach out to as many people as
possible. The people could then provide us with more feedback on our business
idea. Additionally, extra credit could be offered to the person who generates
the most traffic to their social media platform for their product.
The biggest “aha” moment that I had when I read the
book was that there are so many little things that can help you professionalize
you or your business on social media, from professionalizing your online
signature to sorting and scheduling your social media posts. This book taught
me that you can do a lot to make yourself stand out and increase chances of
success in the online marketplace. Other than that, this book met most of my
expectations.
I read Inbound Marketing, but I plan on reading this book for my final reading reflection. Social media also intrigues me and I'm looking forward to reading The Art of Social Media to learn about the various ways an individual can grow their online platform. The exercise that I came up with was similar to yours, it involved students creating their own fictional company and curating content through social media for their business.
ReplyDeleteI also read this book for my second reading reflection and I thought it was very interesting. I learned a lot from this book because when you do not have to create a business profile on social media you do not realize what goes into it. I had the same ‘aha’ moment as you because this book opened my eyes to the small details that are so important for a successful profile.
ReplyDeleteGreat job on your post sounds like you learned a lot from reading “The Art of Social Media”. I really liked your assignment idea it would really force people to learn how to use social media in an effective way. I find it amazing how social media is almost like a science now, it needs to be done effectively or your business can suffer.
ReplyDeleteI like how you noted that this class is based entirely on a social media platform already, yet we never talk about social media in entrepreneurship. Since everything is so centered around social media now, it is very important to know and understand the best ways to run your accounts for your business. Your assignment idea sounds like it would be a good addition to the course.
